Emergency Communications for Chinese Fire and Rescue teams

Perth, Western Australia, 13 January 2020 – Barrett Communications have recently supplied HF radio communications equipment to the Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management for use by the Bureau of Fire and Rescue and Bureau of Forest Fires.

The regions covered by the Ministry of Emergency Management are vast and typically without telephone infrastructure or cellular phone coverage. Reliable communications are essential in these regions and HF radio is the only viable option. The supplied equipment was the Barrett 4050 HF SDR Transceiver with digital voice and Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) options.

Martin Johnson, Director of Business Development at Barrett Communications commented: “The combination of ALE and digital voice is perfect for this application. The ALE automatically selects the best channel and sets up the communications link between stations, and the digital voice option provides clear telephone quality voice communication between all parties. The 4050 also comes standard with multiple language options, including Chinese, French, Spanish, Russian and Arabic. Features such as these simplify the training requirement allowing the users to focus on their role, fighting fires.”
